Finding a good bar soap

Having a good bar of soap for the shower is important. You want to make sure it doesn’t dry out your skin or irritate it, so it’s a good idea to pick a soap made with natural ingredients.

There are lots of different bar soaps out there to choose from; one brand that I particularly like is South of France. It comes in a nice big bar, so it lasts longer and is easier to hang onto. The bars are so big that you can cut them in half and use.

South of France does not use Sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate in their soap. Both of these compounds are used in soap as a detergent that foams up. Sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate is found in the majority of soaps, and is a known irritant to the skin. South of France soap is also EDTA Free, paraben free, and phthalate free. These chemicals are used often in soap and have been shown in tests to cause organ disease, cancer and harm the environment. These are things you do not want to be washing your body with. Another good thing about South of France soap is that they don’t test on animals.

natural soapSouth of France is made out of vegetable oils. Depending on what type of bar you get it will be made out of various oils such as palm oil, coconut oil, olive oil, vegetable glycerin, organic Shea butter, mineral pigment or colorants, blends of fragrances, and essential oils.

You can buy this soap at lots of places and off the Internet. I get mine at World Market and I believe Walmart carries it as well.

I have tried the Shea butter, aloe and lavender bars so far and have enjoyed them all. I just bought the Acai Pomegranate and Lemon Chamomille bar today. I can’t wait to try them out and give them away as gifts this Christmas.
